waxing is a way of removing all of the selected hairs at once. the pros are that the hair takes longer to grow back, and it is quicker to rid oneself of unwanted hair in this manner. also, many say the hair will eventually stop growing in that area. the cons of this are that many people can develop an allergy to the wax, the wax may not be properly kept clean and infections could develop, the hair grows back stubbly, the hair must be a certain length before it can effectively be removed, it has been described as painful by many and uncomfortable by most, it is more costly than trimming, and the pulling action can damage the elasticity of the skin, causing wrinkles later on in life.

If your eyebrows are too long, or thick (my husband has the same issue) do this.... get an eyebrow comb (you can find them at the drugstore) and a tiny pair of sissors. comb through the eyebrow and trim the exess hair. or, you can use this little trimmer. it even has an attachement for thinning out eyebrows. it's very cheap, and can be found in many locations. i got ours at bed bath and beyond. this method does not pluck, it cuts. its pain free and easy to use.
References :
i used to wax, and stopped after many of these "cons" happened to me. i'm now perfectly content just plucking.

Waxing doesn't help the length of our eye brow hair. They must have never gotten their brow professionally done. When I get my brows done, I have them waxed and then trimmed a little, which a maintain for a couple months before going back again. And that the case for any quality waxing specialist. Though, those girls with short or sparse hair don't usually get it done.

Edit: reading these responses I think some of these girls are confusing what you are saying. They think you are using a beard trimmer to shape your brows. When you are using it to trim the LENGTH of the hair. That is why they keep say to wax.
References :
Because if you trim them you get stubble...which is not attractive. Ask people at the salon if waxing would be a good idea.
References :
waxing removes the hair completely and takes a longer time to grow back. the downside is hair grows in black, stubbly, can inflame the area around, and needs to be waxed again. trimming is obviously the better choice.
